Another few weeks have gone by and I’ve just done my first week back at work after 3 months of furlough. A little update on Ron and he is feeling fantastic, we are now 6 weeks post surgery and you wouldn’t know the difference! We left the ground again and then had a jump lesson a couple of weeks later and it was lovely to hear that Ron was looking a lot more relaxed and supple so he’s obviously feeling better.
I thought I’d do another blog about an exercise I’ve been doing with Ron recently, working on straightness while changing bend and movements. I set up tram lines in 3 parts down the 3/4 line of the school with one set being right in the middle. I then played with different movements such as leg yield in from the track, straight through the poles then leg yield back to the track. This gave us a few strides to straighten and then change the bend without falling out the shoulder.

Taking it back to basics and something that Ron found quite tricky was riding dead straight down the line with a walk/trot transition in the middle. He quite often will have a couple of lateral steps in the walk when he anticipates something happening and gets a bit tense but with having the poles quite close together (just enough for him to fit through!) he had to focus more on where he was putting his feet than what I was going to ask next!
With things beginning to go back to some normality I’m just hoping we can get back out competing as soon as possible. As lovely as having some free weekends has been, I would quite like to go back out again now!
